The largest island of the Ionian Sea, Kefalonia amazes visitors with the gorgeous beaches and the lush nature. Although it receives many visitors every summer, its large size prevents mass tourism. This makes Kefalonia an ideal place to relax and get away from noise and stress of daily life. You will find wonderful beaches all around the island of Kefalonia. The most famous beach is Myrtos with the white pebbles and the turquoise water, but equally nice is also the beach of Antisamos, surrounded by wild green mountains. A drive all around the island will bring you to many other gorgeous beaches, including Skala, Lourdas, Xi, Petanoi, Makris Gialos and Platis Gialos.
Kefalonia is a great place for sightseeing, too. The Cave of Drogarati and the Lake Cavern of Melissani are two wonders of nature. Important historical monuments are also the Medieval Castles of Saint George in Peratata and of Assos. Many monasteries can also be found around Kefalonia, such as the Monastery of Agios Gerasimos, protector of the island, and the Monastery of Kipoureon with amazing view to the Ionian Sea.
